Born in Barcelona, Spain and raised there, Laia began figure skating recreationally through the ISI system at the age of 7. She quickly improved and found a passion for the sport, leading her to become part of the Catalan National Skating Selection Team from 1998 to 2007. Under the direction of French choreographer and coach extraordinaire Patrick Capmartin and Spanish Olympian Marta Andrade, Laia competed nationally and internationally in Freestyle as well as Theatre on Ice and was a part of many shows and exhibitions. During the summers, she trained in France, Andorra, and Italy, gaining more experience and a broad set of skills.
During that time, she also began coaching and found a passion for off-ice training, realizing the importance of combining the two in order to unleash one's full potential.
In 2007, Laia began her professional skating career by becoming part of a Holiday on Ice show choreographed by Olympic Champion Robin Cousins. She then moved on to touring with Disney on Ice through Europe, North and South America, and Asia for 4 years with shows like High School Musical: The Ice Tour, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story 3 where she further developed her theatrical side and grew in her choreography and skating skills.
While on tour, Laia continued daily physical conditioning and learned the benefits of combining off-ice training with figure skating, creating body-aware skaters that were able to perform at a higher level.
In 2011, Laia got off the road and married, and began coaching figure skating, yoga, off-ice conditioning, and dance. She has coached in Spain, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Florida. She is a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) and of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA). She is certified as CER A coach, and also holds a CPR/AED certification.
She currently coaches in Wesley Chapel, FL at the recently inaugurated Florida Hospital Center Ice as well as seasonally in Barcelona, Spain at FC Barcelona.
